Medicare
Medicare is our country’s health insurance program for people aged 65 or older and younger people receiving Social Security disability benefits. Original Medicare includes Part A and B. Part A covers hospitalization, home care, and other medical needs when hospitalized. Part B covers outpatient care such as doctor visits, medical tests, screenings, and preventative care. Part A and B help with the cost of health care, but they don’t cover all medical expenses or the cost of most long-term care.
You have several options available to you, including staying on Principia’s health plan, enrolling in Medicare, and electing a supplement or advantage plan to add to your Medicare coverage.
Review your options and find more information, including a Medicare consultant recommendation, in the attachment below or you may utilize Medicare with ALEX.
Creditable Coverage
All Principia’s health plans provide creditable health coverage. The Silver, Gold and Platinum also include creditable prescription coverage; the Bronze plan’s prescription coverage is not considered creditable for Medicare purposes because of the high deductible on the plan.
Required Form
Once you’ve decided to enroll in Medicare Part B, you’ll be required to complete the Medicare form (CMS L564) available below, and send it to HR@Principia.edu to request that our HR team completes the employer portion.
