Eligibility

Employee Eligibility

You are eligible to participate in the Principia benefits plan if you’re an active Principia employee working at least 20 hours per week in an eligible position (excludes on-call, contract, and student employees).

Dependent Eligibility

The following dependents are eligible for coverage:

Your legally married spouse.

Children up to age 26, regardless of their dependent status. “Children” includes natural, legally adopted, step, and foster children, children who are dependent on you during the waiting period before adoption, and children for whom you have legal guardianship.

By enrolling your dependents in a Principia benefit plan, you acknowledge they are eligible as defined above. If your dependent is no longer eligible, it is your responsibility to notify Principia by submitting a Life Event change in ADP within 31 days.

Loss of Eligibility

Certain life events provide you a 31-day window to elect benefits or change your covered dependents.

If you lose benefits eligibility due to termination of employment, a status change to “non-benefits eligible,” or another qualifying reason, your health, dental, and vision benefits will continue through the end of the month that you lose benefits eligibility. Short- and Long-Term Disability and Life Insurance benefits end on your last day.

If your child is turning 26, your child’s coverage will automatically be terminated at the end of the month in which they turn 26.

If your spouse or dependent child loses coverage under the plan because they no longer meet the plan’s definition of “dependent,” complete a Life Event on ADP within 31 days. Your spouse and children may be eligible for continued coverage under COBRA.

When your coverage begins

Your benefits coverage begins on the first of the month following your hire, rehire, or status change to benefits-eligible date, or on that date if it is the first of the month. The only exceptions are Life, Short- and Long-Term Disability insurance, which are in place on your date of hire.

Health, Dental, Vision and other Voluntary Benefits

Enroll in your benefits within 31 days of the date you were hired or became benefits-eligible by following the instructions below. If you do not complete the enrollment process by the deadline, you will be enrolled by default into required plans only (Basic Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment, Disability, and Employee and Family Assistance Program); you will have no health, dental, or vision coverage. After 31 days, you will not be able to make changes until the next Open Enrollment period unless you have a qualifying life event.

Qualifying Life Event

Certain life events provide you a 31-day window to elect benefits or change your covered dependents.

  • Birth or adoption of a child
  • Commencement or termination of adoption proceedings

Remember, dependent verification will be required.
