Christian Science Care

When you enroll in a Principia health plan, you receive both comprehensive medical coverage and Christian Science care, which includes practitioners, nurses, and accredited care facilities. You’re responsible for 100% of the costs of the Christian Science care until you meet your deductible.

On the Bronze and Platinum plans, which have a separate (and lower) Christian Science deductible, your Christian Science claims are applied to both your medical and your Christian Science deductible; similarly, your medical claims are also applied to both your medical and Christian Science deductible.  On the Silver and Gold plans, your medical and Christian Science claims apply to the same deductible. Submitting a claim (getting reimbursed):

To submit a claim, complete the reimbursement form below and return it to UMR (using the instructions provided on the form).

Consider these helpful tips when submitting a claim:

• The standard timeframe for claim submission is typically 90 days from the date of service, with a maximum allowable period of 12 months 
• Claims submitted more than one year after the date of service will not be processed
• Submit no more than one patient’s service on each claim form
• Include no more than a month of service on each claim form
• Submit your claims via email for the best experience and most timely processing
• Submit only one claim form per email
• You should pay your practitioner, nurse or care facility directly; UMR will reimburse you (after your deductible is met).
• Submit all your Christian Science care claims, even if you haven’t met your deductible yet – those claims will be applied to your deductible. You will only be reimbursed, though, once you’ve met your deductible.

Christian Science care is also an eligible expense under the Health Savings Account and the Flexible Spending Account, allowing you to save on taxes for your non-reimbursed expenses.
