Tuition Benefits

With the significant cost of a private school and college education, Principia’s tuition benefits programs can be worth tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars to you and your family over the course of your Principia career.

  • Tuition discount: You receive a 90 percent tuition discount for all children enrolled in Pre-K through College (Early Learning Center and Acorn programs are excluded) and for your spouse enrolled as a degree-seeking student at Principia College. This benefit continues for the duration of your child or spouse’s School and College enrollment (up to completion of a degree), as long as you remain employed in a benefits-eligible position. The discount does not apply to room and board or other fees.

Part-time, benefits-eligible employees receive a prorated tuition discount based on the full-time equivalency of their position (i.e. 70% FTE receives 70% of the 90% tuition discount).

  • Student Loan Forgiveness: Graduates of Principia College can choose to reduce their student debt through employment at Principia (instead of receiving a tuition discount for their children or spouse). The benefit applies only to staff (not to family members) and cannot be applied to past-due balances. The taxable benefit reduces an employee’s monthly loan payment by up to 20% of their monthly salary.

Loan forgiveness is a taxable benefit and will be reflected in each paycheck; amounts forgiven are reported annually on Form W-2.

  • Tuition Waiver: You and your spouse also qualify for tuition waiver, allowing you both to take up to 5 semester hours each per semester at Principia College. Spouses may receive the Tuition Discount or Tuition Waiver but not both. Employees and their spouses can either:
    • Enroll for credit by registering for a class (requires a high school diploma)
    • Audit a class without credit (requires faculty approval).

In either case, the employee or their spouse is responsible for all necessary equipment, including books and technology.

Employees are eligible for either the Tuition Discount or the Student Loan Forgiveness, but not both.
