Disability Benefits

If you need to be away from work for an extended period of time, you’ll find support from Principia’s Human Resources team and SunLife, our partner in leave and disability management.

Principia provides you with short- and long-term disability coverage. This coverage pays you benefits if you cannot work due to a non-work-related illness or injury. Your disability benefits may run concurrently with other federal or state leave programs, like the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

You and Principia share in this coverage, and you pay a tax on the premium that Principia pays. You’ll see this reflected on your pay statement. Paying tax on the premium means the benefit is not taxed when paid out.

Your benefit continues until you recover, reach normal social security retirement age, or die.
